why is it so hard for me to pick what I want to do after highschool?
I am very stuck and dont know what to do.

Hi Da!
It's natural to feel this way but one action you can take to figure this out is to focus on your hobbies. The first step to finding a career to understand what you enjoy doing so you can narrow down a pathway. In addition to that it is just important to know what you don't like so you don't go in the wrong direction. However, that doesn't mean it's not a good idea to explore all of your options. Nowadays a lot of jobs are hybrid or even fully remote so it's also good to know what kind of work environment you would like to work in.

Discovering your true passion might seem like a daunting task, but don't let it intimidate you. Keep in mind, there's no need to stress. I completely empathize with the pressure you feel when people constantly ask, "What are your plans after graduation?" This question becomes almost inescapable during your final year of high school.
However, it's crucial not to hurry into a career that doesn't ignite your passion. So, take the time to explore, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and connect with others to gain insightful advice across various fields. Here's wishing you all the best on this exciting journey.

One question I often pose to them is about their life's aspirations. What are their dreams for the future? A person with strong ambitions usually exhibits a powerful drive, particularly when it comes to their future careers.
Now, I'd like to pose the same question to you. When you were in grade school, did you ever envision what you might want to become in the future? Similarly, during high school, did any particular career path catch your interest?
Currently, you've mentioned feeling a bit lost, unsure of what to do next. I encourage you to take some time to reflect on what truly brings you joy. What hobbies do you have? What subjects in school do you find most engaging? What are some traits you possess that make you feel proud?
As you find answers to these questions, you'll start to gain a clearer picture of what you genuinely want for your future. Remember, it's okay to take your time in figuring things out. You're on your own unique journey, and there's no rush.
Seek help from your career counselor in your school. I am sure your counselor is waiting for you.
Do some research about career occupation handbook in the library and find out your top 3 career interests that you want to explore.
Attend career talks in your school or in your community.

I totally get how you're feeling right now. Trust me, I've been there too, feeling all at sea after high school, not quite sure which direction to head in. And you know what? That's perfectly okay. Many of us, myself included, are still on that journey of discovery, trying to figure out our own unique path.
The first thing I did to help me navigate my way was to take a good, hard look at myself. Here are some of the questions I asked myself:
- What activities really make me happy?
- What are the things I'm passionate about?
- What are the values that matter most to me?
- What drives me?
- What issues in the world stir me to want to make a difference?
- What are my strong points?
- What are the areas I need to work on?
- Where do I envision myself a year from now?
- Where do I see myself a decade down the line?
Initially, I found these questions tough to answer. So, I kept them handy in the notes app on my phone and jotted down my thoughts whenever I had a moment of self-realization.

This period of time in your life may be daunting. "Follow your heart or follow your dreams" as advice sounds oh so nice but when it all is said and done a decision has to be made. What do you like to do? What classes do you naturally gravitate toward and do well? These are some of the questions to ask yourself.
Sometimes it may be helpful to volunteer in areas of interest, or better yet find a job in that field. I believe there is no correct answer....its what you are comfortable with and what you need at this point.
Your guidance counselor may be able to provide suggestions as well as teachers, coaches, community organizations or searching for websites like this one are helpful.
My advice to you is to stay positive. The answer may not come right away and the answer will change over time. It is always great to find a career with many possibilities and room to explore all kinds of avenues.
I wish you good luck! You are already off to a good start just by simply reaching out.

I know the thought of your future, career, or college can be stressful. But, think about your interests and do research on jobs that pertain to those. Explore the income of those jobs and see what appeals to you. If your passions line up with a job but, you aren't satisfied with the wage pursue a job that you can enjoy that gives you a steady feasible income. Then, pursue your passion after when you are financially safe, it's never too late to explore your passions or do what makes you happy. Best of luck!!!
