If you feel you really like working with that age group, you can follow the career path. I am a tutor myself, giving individual classes. I personally prefer working with adults. You are right: It is more challenging to teach high school students based on their age, learning styles, and cognitive abilities.

A teacher is a touch bearer, you are to inspire generations with your passion, knowledge, experience and love. If you are passionate about this go ahead and do this!. The perception about the people around you should not affect your career, rather help reorient people with misconceptions.

Rachael’s Answer

Teaching high schoolers has been the most rewarding experiences of my career! What you learn in the classroom is directly transferable to any career - organization, adaptability, working with others, and patience. If you are passionate about mentoring young adults and setting them up for success once they leave the classroom, don't let their age intimidate you. Teaching all grades comes up with a unique set of challenges and benefits. High schoolers particularly are developing their unique identities and the heterogeneity of maturity levels in one room can make it hard to accommodate everyone. On the other hand though, high school teachers play a key role in shaping students' academic skills, critical thinking abilities, and overall character. It is special to see where they go after they graduate and help them navigate that journey! The best feeling is that call that you motivated someone to go to college or chose a particular career path .
