You can major in any subject and go to medical school. You just need to in addition to your specific majors required courses also make sure you add in the pre medical school course work. AMCAS- the medical school application service publishes these required courses and for each specific medical school! Finding a pre-med college advisor can really help guide this for you and help you create a better course timeline to complete the work efficiently in your specific time frame goals for med school applications

Sam,

Since you are almost finished with your college degree in business, you may be best off completing that degree and consider applying to a US Medical School, which is a postgraduate degree. My understanding is that to obtain an MBBS you would have to be admitted to an MBBS program which is a 6 year combined undergraduate-graduate program, so in essense you would have to start college all over again.

If you complete your current degree, you would still have to take all the required science classes as a non-degree student somewhere, including the 2 years of chemistry, a year of physics, and year of biology, and maybe calculus. So long as you pass the classes and have other good academic credentials, you could be considered by a US medical school.

I went to medical school with many classmates who had found out that medicine was their calling in life after they had done other careers, some in business. They went back to school and took the required pre-medical classes, passed them, applied to med school, and were accepted even though some didn't have the best grades. What they did have, and this impressed the admissions committees, was drive, maturity, and life experience. So, don't be discouraged that you have realized this now and that you will need to complete more courses to become a physician, either via the longer MBBS route or through the US Medical School route.

Good luck to you!

You still have time to shore up your degree with pre-med type courses.
In the end what will matter more will be
1) Your overall GPA and academic aptitude
2) Performance on standardized entrance tests
3) Letters of recommendation.

It's important to understand that a medical career is quite different than a career in business.
Most importantly you should have a vocation to help people in need first before considering a medical career...in business this is not necessarily the primary goal or need.
The medical career is also much longer and requires more dedication to formal education/preparation than business.
Take your courses and see how you like
1) Biology
2) Chemistry
3) Biochemistry

If these subjects interest you and you perform well in them..then you might be on your way to your goal of being an MD
Take your time if you're still under 25 to decide. Take time to understand what the profession requires to be successful before you make the switch. Remember every Dr. owning their own practice is also a businessman (so having a business degree won't hurt). You will need some years after getting through school, internship, residency before you can establish yourself in your own practice. Make sure you save up money (lots of it) before entering school to avoid going into too much debt.

Good Luck
