How am i supposed to know what college major or what college is right for me?

I am a sophomore, I love reading I love history I am fascinated by the many different cultures in the world I would love to travel and see more of the world and I love taking pictures and videos

Thank you comment icon Hello, I would maybe suggest that you take a gap year to figure out what you want to do. Because if you go to college for this year and then decide, maybe it’s not what you want to do. You will have waste all of that money. Nothing is wrong with taking a gap year to decide what is best for you! Goodluck! Meghan Meyer

Hi Saron, I know this might be a confusing topic but I would suggest majoring in what you love. There are plenty of colleges that offer history as a major and also photography, so you can perhaps double-major in both. As for which college, that question really depends on a number of factors. Always remember that you want to minimize the amount of student loans you take out, so unless your parents are able to pay for private schools or if you get a full-scholarship to a private school that you would like to attend, I would suggest attending a public school that offer amazing programs but one problem is that classes will have more people on average. I attended a community college before transferring to a 4 year university and just by doing that I was able to save so much money. Good luck with everything and I hope this helps.

There are many free tools to consider online. Career assessment surveys are a great start to see what you are passionate about (it seems you already know) and to see what careers lie in the path of your passions. Talking to and visiting multiple colleges is a good idea as well. Job shadowing some potential careers is an easy way to see if you would find enjoyment in a career as well. Good luck!

Thank you for your question. This is a very common question to many students. And, I am glad to hear that you have a wide variety of interest. Firstly, you have to determine the careers that you have interest.
Below are my suggestions :
1. If you like travelling, writing, history, taking photos, etc., have you thought about to be a travel journalist, travel consultant, historian, archaeologist, photographer, film director, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 career you would like to pursue. The relevant subjects will be your major and minor.
5. Explore the entry criteria of these subjects in the college
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Tricia’s Answer

You are ahead of the game. You know what you love and are interested in. The next step is exploring possible careers. Do your research, see if you can connect with others in that field, take your passion and see what you can do with it on your own — many outlets including social media, and larger internet. Keep your options open. As you get more experience you will likely get clearer on what you want to do and how you can get there.
