Hi Lila,

The answers before me are all good. You're close to California and there are some very good schools, CalArt, Cal State Long Beach, Academy of Art, Art Center College of Design... These are all great programs to go if you're interested. To me, going to the best schools kick-starts your career because of the networking effect. It's like every industry, people hire those who came from their school if they have the right talent and experience because they know what it takes to go through the program. But is it "necessary?" No. The good ones are still the good ones with or without school.

To me, the most challenging part of graphic design is that people don't know how to "judge" graphic design. You can have the best design based on what the client needs, but they can't quickly say no because "they don't like red." But then you learn very quickly how to set that aside and pivot.

If you're considering a career in graphic design, you may be wondering which college can offer the best education.
While I can't say for certain which is the best, I can share my own experience at CalArts. The program was both immersive and enlightening, teaching me how to be innovative and resourceful with design. I learned to experiment with various resources, such as text, typography, and outside elements, to create inspiring designs.

However, being a graphic designer comes with its own set of challenges. From facing criticism and rejection to keeping up with the latest trends, it can be easy to experience creative burnout. Despite these challenges, graphic design can be a rewarding experience if you take the right steps to overcome these obstacles.

I hope my experience can help guide your own inquiries into the world of graphic design.
