Courtney’s Answer

Being a single mom is your superpower. Juggling so many responsibilities has shaped you into someone with the strengths and qualities of a fantastic nurse. You have a natural gift for caring. If you're concerned about bias when job hunting, highlight your skills, experience, and ability to manage everything well in your resume and interviews. Connecting with other nurses, joining nursing groups, and seeking employers who appreciate diversity can help you find the right job.

Remember, being a single mom doesn't stop you from being an amazing nurse. With the right mindset and support, you can find a job you love and take care of your family.

Shannon’s Answer

As a single mom myself, I want you to know this first and foremost: being a single mom is not your only story.

Think about the qualities you’ve developed through that experience. Even without knowing you personally, I know you are strong, determined, resourceful, and likely a very good communicator—raising four kids requires all of that and more. Those are real, valuable skills.

When applying for roles, focus on your skills, your experience, and the work you want to do. Be confident in what you bring to the table. At the same time, communicate your schedule clearly and professionally—setting expectations early can make all the difference and helps create a relationship built on trust.

Your story adds to your value; it doesn’t limit it.

Not at all. I know several single moms that are dominating in the work force. Most companies nowadays encourage single moms to be fearless and to jump into the work force. There are so many programs out there to help you take care of your children and still thrive in the workplace.

Juelle’s Answer

Being a single mom will not determine whether or not you are hired. Employers will look at your credentials first to determine if you will be a good fit for their facility. Employers would work with you if you have a stable setup for childcare.
