Hi Cade,

I would definitely reach out to your high school guidance counselor, as they can give you some tools that your school may have available to you. I would also suggest looking at a local convention center to see if there are any college fairs coming up. That will give you access to a ton of colleges in one room.

If you're talking in terms of physical items, I would say pretty much anything you needed for high school (notebooks, pens, highlighters, etc.) that is going to stay that same. If you're going to be staying in a dorm, I would recommend going to Bed, Bath & Beyond's website, as they have a huge checklist for items you made need for the dorm. Don't forget cheap flip flops for the shower. I completely forgot about that, and my parents and I ran to Target the day I moved in and got cheap flip flops! :-)

Colleges are happy to provide information, and every college with which I am familiar has offices to advise you for your major, classes, career, extracurricular activites, etc. You should get familiar with the resources at whichever college you attend by talking to a counselor in one of these areas and then exploring each resource to see which you find the most helpful.

Colleges provide informational sessions to educate you about their campus prior to application season. Once accepted to a university, you will most likely attend an orientation to familiarize you with the classes, dorms, etc. Once you pick a major, college counselors are very helpful in letting you know what classes you need to take to complete that major.
