What is the best way to get a start in the Fashion industry with the eventual goal of starting your own business?

I am a senior in high school nearly 100% set for college with my major, orientation date, and all--but I'm unsure of how to get to the point of being a bridal fashion designer with my own business. I know the Fashion industry is generally a tough career to find a start in, especially concerning bridal and formal wear, so what are my options after getting a Bachelor's degree?

Hey Graciela,

My suggestion to you would be to try and work in the Bridal industry while attending school or you could find a seasonal position working at a bridal shop during the Summer. Learn as much as you can by talking to management and possibly the owner. See if they'll let you attend some Bridal shows so you can experience what it's actually like. If you decide to work for someone who owns their own shop make sure you let them know you're inspired to do the same think and want to gain the knowledge they have, I'm sure they'd love to take you under their wing.

Hi I work in Fashion but as a Customer Care manager. I work for luxury houses and started by asking for temporary work through fashion agencies. For example in NY there is JBC style and 24 Seven staffing agency. I think a good place to start is by internships or temporary office work as you get your foot into the industry.

I have never gone to Fashion school but I educate myself and surround myself by friends who are designers or have background in Fashion.

Just know what you want and take the steps necessary to get there. I don't have a typical story and neither will you. :)
