Janet’s Answer

Today we live in a global village with one country affecting another. A associated major that would help encompass understanding of what is happening on a global scale would be economics. Economics would give the view from a demand and supply point of view.

Janet recommends the following next steps:

Research on how economics relates to business, both domestic and international.

Ria’s Answer

Pursuing an "area studies" major (ex. Asian Studies) or a language minor/major would be a great compliment to international business! I did a similar major to international business and held a second major in Asian Studies. I found that focusing on Asia also shaped my interests in international business and I am currently working in China! Business schools would also appreciate the depth in your interest and you could then pick electives in business school that are more tailored to your area of interest.

Ria recommends the following next steps:

Research area/language majors

Katie’s Answer

I believe that if you are doing a major in International Business, or any type of business in general, pick a minor or double major in something you are truly interested in and passionate about! I give this advice because I majored in Accounting in college, which was filled with many rigorous courses and heavy technical knowledge. I chose not to double major or minor, and instead, chose random classes as my electives that sparked my interest. I feel that this was extremely beneficial because I had a wide range of perspectives to offer when going into interviews when it came time to find a full time job. Every company that is hiring wants a candidate that is well rounded, and choosing a minor or double major in something that you can speak on and bring into your new job is something that is worth noticing!

Katie recommends the following next steps:

Take some time to figure out what you are passionate about! Then do research to discover which schools contain programs for those topics.
