What club or activity would help me to meet people at my new college? I am the only student who speak french and I would like to get to know more people

#french this is my first year in college and the fact that I am the only person speaking french as a first language makes me feel apart of the rest a little. #friends #meeting-new-people #college #life-transitions

Thank you comment icon Hi Andrew- Is there a french group at your college? I am a French speaker and the french group loved to practice talking with me. I made great friends. I would have them over for french food and even talk to them about specific topics. If there isn't one what about creating one? You could reach out to a French professor and ask if there is a student he/she would recommend working with your on it or maybe you could make a pitch in one of the classes. The group was called Pause Cafe and we would get together over food and just talk. We would sometimes have themes or topics. Sometime we would watch french movies or tv. Cariad Shepherd

Hi, depending on the school you go to there is probably a French club run through your school's language department. There might also be a club for international students club. Most schools will host an Org Fair for new students to join clubs, that would be a great way to see what your school has to offer. I joined a lot of clubs in collage and it really helped me acclimate to living on my own so I recommend you join any group you might be interested in and try it out for a day. If you don't stay with the club you might at least meet a new friend. Good Luck!

Clubs and intramural activities are the best way to meet new people. I was a very shy person when I first started school but after my second semester I joined a club and we did orientation for the incoming freshman the next year. This really broke me out of my shell and I started doing all different activities around the campus and that got me to meet students, professors, and coaches that I would normally have never met. You will have to take the first step and that is always the hardest but if you put yourself out there someone will respond.

Good luck
