Thank you comment icon Business classes would be a good foundation, this will give you fundamentals on how businesses are run and not just the product or service you may be trying to sell. Charles S. Pindell IV

Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you have interest in Computer Science. There are many jobs in Technology fields, e.g. Developer, Application Support, System Administrator, Network specialist, etc. Each may need specialised knowledge.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Find out more on different computer related jobs and determine what you have interest
2. Speak to someone who are working in these careers
3. Attend the information sessions of computer science courses hosts by college. Speak to the professors and alumni if possible
4. Find out the entry criteria of computer science course in colleges
5. Work hard on your academic to meet the entry criteria
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Joseph’s Answer

Hello Liam,
There are two paths you should consider based on your request. The first is an IT path which will place you on a path to learn about how computers work and connect and it will be beneficial to be in a "hands-on" job helping companies, government agencies, schools, or private entities communicate and store their data as well as conduct their day-to-day business activities.
The second path is a technical/coding path (Code.org offers great courses for beginners to see if you are interested). This can lead you into a high-demand field which can be quite lucrative but is monotonous and tedious work.
I hope that helps!

Xiaojie Johan’s Answer

Hello Liam,

Thanks for asking. The obvious choice here to major in university/college is Computer Science, but there are other Computer-heavy fields such as Management Information Systems or even Economics/Mathematics .(this combo field is not as computer-heavy, but you will learn how to use computer software programs such as STATA, R and Python.) The details are easily researched on Google or by talking to your school guidance counselor about what university/college and which of these majors you want to pursue.

Thanks and best of luck!

Regards,

Johan
