What kind of extracurricular activities can I expect to be involved with in college?

In high school, I participated in all kinds of extra activities, but I know the academic workload is more strenuous in college, so I'm wondering if I will still have time to be involved. #college #college-advice

Thank you comment icon You involvement in on-campus activities totally depends on you! Each college has hundreds of clubs, groups, teams, and Greek life that you can get involved with. Your school will probably have a page dedicated to all the different activities listed under student life, so check them out. Whether you want to participate, and how much, is up to you. Once you start school and get a feel for how much time you spend with your current commitments, then you can gauge how much time you have for other activities. You could get involved with several, or you could even join a Sorority because they generally have a large itinerary with many different activities. I'd suggest joining your major's club if there is one, because that will give you the best opportunities for networking in your field. Katy Caulder, M.S.

Absolutely! There's plenty of opportunities and time. The best is if you can find a job that pays but also counts as something career-building or leadership oriented that you are interested in, so you can hit two birds with one stone. And yes, your academics are super important, but college is also about exploring your interests and learning about what makes you tick, so don't sacrifice those extra curriculars!

Rachel’s Answer

Extracurriculars can involve anything you are interested in. You can play sports, play an instrument, participate in student government or a spirit organization.

Just remember to study every day. Attend your classes. Do the homework. When you find a class difficult, attend office hours early in the semester. If you continue to struggle, get a tutor.

Richard’s Answer

Treat school like a job. Get up early, get to work and when your work is done at the end of the day, you can spend time on social life or organizations.

There will be organizations for your athletic and pre-professional interests. There are also social organizations like sororities, but these can be very time-consuming and interfere with your school work
