Vickey’s Answer

Always good to plan early.

Vickey recommends the following next steps:

Take as much science in high school that you can, especially biology and chemistry
In college it is the same. Science, Science, Science. Anatomy/Physiology, Genetics, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry.
Apply to as many med schools as possible to increase your chances of getting in.
Good luck!

Naiara’s Answer

Hi, great question. I would take one step at a time, otherwise it can sound very overwhelming. I suggest that you focus on doing well on your high school classes, then be very involved in college and make sure to take all the required pre-med courses (don't worry, you got 4 years for that!). During college, you will also prepare for the MCATs in order to apply for medical school. Then, while in medical school you can explore multiple different specialties and learn about them. This will help you decide which field is better for you. After 4 years of medical school, you will then apply to residency. There are many options of specialty, and even for pediatrics and surgery, there are a variety of "subtypes" of pediatric surgery. For example, are you interested in plastics peds surgery? cardiac peds surgery? orthopedics? You will find out as you advance in your path to become a physician.

Good luck!
