Hi Maya,

This can vary based on the school district. Most public schools have public unions that require them to publish their salaries. You can find the pay rate for your district through some digging on the website. The salary will range based on education level, years of employment, and completion of post-graduation training. Those trainings tend to be one or two day workshops.

In Massachusetts, you will need to complete a bachelors degree in a related field (sociology, social work, psychology, etc) and then a master's program in an accredited program. After your masters you then apply for a license with the Department of Education in your state.

Hi,
Here is a good link for you with information on social work careers - I will say that social work is a career that people go into for things other than money...you will not be fiscally/cash rich in social work but there are other rewards...I worked in social work for over 7 years and it was still one of the best careers I have ever had. I work in business now, the pay is better and I enjoy it but for different reasons than when I was in social work. Good luck!

Income
It is difficult to assign a definitive range to social work salaries; however, one thing is certain: Demand for social workers is on the rise. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, by the year 2000 there will be more than half a million social workers in the United States.
Those just starting out with a BSW can expect an annual salary ranging up to $30,000 depending on type of work, experience, and geographic factors. A social worker with an MSW degree can expect an annual income ranging to about $40,000; a DSW can anticipate an annual income of more than $40,000. A few experienced private practitioners and senior administrators earn as much as $100,000.
