Gary’s Answer

Hi,
Yes, they are related in a way. If you are interested in both, I would suggest taking one major in college and maybe the other one as a minor or free/elective courses.
Psychology is the study of human behavior, social work is basically helping people to help themselves so some psychology is helpful when working in social work so you can understand how people think, behave and how to help.
Good luck!

Allen’s Answer

Nancy, social work is a noble profession. It can be difficult over time however as some you help will have generational needs. If you stay with it long enough it is likely to will interface with the children of the parents you helped 15 years prior. Until we have personal health accountability and a bit more healthcare access equity for challenged communities there will always be a need for social work. Check out the social determinates of health and that will help you understand the best places social workers can plug into making a change. I would also encourage you to reach out to a social worker from the state or local human resources office or private firm and ask if you can shadow someone in the field.
