Brian’s Career Stories
How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?
My dream has not always been to be a police officer. At a young age it is something that I used to pretend with my friends and family. I had my own little uniform, and we used to play 'cops n' robbers.' I am a third generation law enforcer, both my father and my grandfather retired from law enforcement. When I was in high school, I really enjoyed anything to do with computers, and when I graduated I pursued a degree in computers. After a year in college, I woke up one morning in January that I didn't want to do that for the rest of my life, I already had a job as a computer technician at my local school district. I went to the counselors at the college and changed my major to criminal justice. I have been in law enforcement for almost four years now and I love what I do. I am glad that I made the decision to go this direction with my life.
What is the one piece of career advice you wish someone gave you when you were younger?
The best advice I can give is follow your dream. If your heart is drawing you towards a career, pursue it. Don't let anyone hold you back from doing what you love.
