About

I am a lawyer who works in a sales organization. I have a non-traditional legal career which I love. I work with lawyers every day, I am a problem solver, and I have a passion for teaching adults.

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

What is the biggest challenge you had to overcome to get to where you are now professionally? How did you overcome it?

My own fear is the biggest challenge I've had to overcome. Fear that I wasn't smart enough, would sound silly, or have the wrong answer. I overcame it by asking for help and getting feedback from people I have worked with. For example, if I don't know the answer I ask for help, and I don't pretend to know everything. If I am working on a new presentation, I show it to a colleague and ask for their feedback, I'll ask what did you like/what can I do better. Their feedback gives me a chance to do better before talking in front of a group of strangers and then I feel more confident.

How did you pick your career? Did you know all along?

I picked a career in law because I wanted to help people, especially women and children. I thought I would earn a law degree and then work with women and children. In law school, I changed my path. I discovered that I had a passion for teaching, more than I had a passion for the work of being a lawyer. Now I get to do both, teach lawyers and as a volunteer attorney work on cases or projects that support women and children.
