Woah Tonisiah,
You thought it right to move forward from the old habits.
Actually, becoming a social media dancer is a fantastic way to showcase your talent, inspire others, and even build a personal brand. You can get started without spending a lot of money by following these steps:
1. Start with a Plan
2. Create a TikTok Account
3. Practice and Improve
4. Collaborate and Network
5. Use Free Editing Tools
6. Promote Yourself on Other Platforms
7. Stay Motivated and Authentic
1. Start with a Plan Think about your style: Do you love hip-hop, contemporary, or freestyle? Decide what kind of dancing represents you best. Set your goals: Are you doing this for fun, to inspire others, or to become famous? Your goals will shape your strategy.
2. Create a TikTok Account TikTok is the perfect platform for dancers because it’s all about short, creative videos. I can always help you with this.
3. Practice and Improve Take Online Dance Classes: You can find free or affordable tutorials on YouTube. Channels like 1MILLION Dance Studio or Matt Steffanina offer excellent lessons. Create a Routine: Dedicate time daily to practice. Even 30 minutes can make a big difference. Experiment: Try different styles, settings, or music to discover what works best for you.
4. Collaborate and Network Partner with friends or other TikTok creators for duet challenges. Collaborations can help grow your audience.
6. Promote Yourself on Other Platforms Share your TikTok videos on Instagram, YouTube Shorts, or Facebook Reels. Cross-promotion can help you reach a bigger audience.

Congratulations on wanting to participate and even have a career in the arts. Social media is a great tool to reach the masses but it takes a lot of hours and dedication plus editing to put those videos out there. A dancer may practice and repeat one move for hours or days until they get it right to perform and post for those 30 seconds. I would recommend you do your homework and if you want to become a dancer search for dance classes that interest you whether it is ballet, hip hop, tango, ballroom, jazz, folk, or swing, the options are limitless, and choose something you like and make yourself stand out. Also if you are passionate about dancing, some schools offer specific classes for the arts one example would be Julliard. I would encourage you to look at the longevity of what you love to do and write it down with paper and pencil because social media, although entertaining to view new trends, does not last long, if you want to be a dancer, seek where you can take classes of dance even speak to an occupational counselor at your school.

Hello, Tonisiah !
Your first step if you want to be a dancer is to try it through classes and see how it goes. Also audition for a show or musical at your school. If you specifically only want to dance for social media, that would be a good hobby, but not a career. Dancers are trained professionals and social media is a medium on which people can view performances. It does not describe a dancer.
Along the way, since you already are focused on social media, you might want to decide between a career as a Dancer or a career as a Social Media Professional. The careers you can have in Social Media for a company are: Brand Ambassador, Community Manager, Digital Marketer, Engagement Coordinator, Interactive Media Manager, Social Media Analyst, Social Media Associate, Social Media Content Manager, Social Media Designer, and Social Media Strategist.
As a dancer you can naturally record yourself dancing and post it to a social media platform, but that will not lead to a career as a dancer. It takes many years of training, auditioning for shows and it's very demanding physically and even emotionally as it is very precise and competitive. I advise giving it some time and if it's just that you like social media, you can explore some fine careers that will have you involved in an interesting career that you'd enjoy. In the meantime, you can record and post any content, dancing or otherwise, to social media, but I do not want to steer you wrong by saying you can make a living from it.
So it seems like you need to makes some decisions. Are you willing to train to do dance performances with a troupe, on stage live, for television and film ? By getting some dance experience, you will be able to gauge just where you need to be.
Training as a dancer is quite expensive and so is getting a college degree to work as a Social Media professional, so there really is no free way to prepare for careers. You don't know what your situation will be like by the time you are ready for education and training. There are always scholarships and Financial Aid for students. Take it slow for now and set doable goals. There's plenty of time to explore your interests.
