Thinking about the future is a great start to securing a career path (job) you enjoy. Moreover, staying on top of your classwork, submitting your assignments on time and participating in class discussions all help with self development, the ability to honor deadlines and interact with others as a group or team member. Additionally, begin to explore volunteer opportunities with local community groups, within city and county government, colleges and universities in your area and places of interest to you. Volunteering will provide you learning opportunities and introduce you to a host of career options and earn you a paid or unpaid internship.

Hi Chelsi - It's great and commendable to hear you want to help out your mom with bills as a sophomore in high school!
What is relevant and considered a high paying job may change as we progress. My suggestion is to find what you are passionate, and treat each opportunity and experience as learning and growth. Whether it is owning your own business, becoming a doctor, lawyer, accountant, etc. there are common skills you will benefit from. Continue maintaining a growth mindset and brace challenges. You will do great!

Focus on your education, explore high-paying careers (tech, healthcare, skilled trades), develop skills (coding, communication), gain work experience (part-time jobs, internships), and network with mentors. Consider college, trade schools, or certifications based on your goals. Plan ahead and stay proactive!

Good question! It’s amazing that you’re already thinking about your future and want to help your mom. Here are some proactive steps you can take now to set yourself up for success:

4. Part-Time Jobs/Internships: If possible, look for part-time jobs, internships, or volunteer positions in fields that interest you. This can help you gain experience, build your resume, and make professional connections.
5. Build a Network: Connect with teachers, mentors, and professionals in your desired field. Networking can provide valuable advice, support, and potential job opportunities in the future.
6. Set Goals: Define your career goals and create a plan to achieve them. This can help you stay focused and motivated as you work towards your future job.
7. Personal Development: Work on soft skills like time management, problem-solving, and adaptability. These are crucial in any job and can set you apart from others.
8. Stay Informed: Keep up with trends in your desired industry. Being knowledgeable about the latest developments can give you an edge in job interviews and opportunities.

Hello! It's great that you're thinking about your future and how you can help your mom. Here are some steps (coming from my experience after 30 years of working in the ITC business, I'm close to the end of this journey. It's time to rest) you can take now to set yourself up for a good job in the future:
Focus on Your Education: Doing well in school is crucial. Pay attention in your classes, complete your assignments, and ask for help if you need it. Good grades can open doors to scholarships and college opportunities.
Explore Your Interests: Take the time to discover what subjects and activities you enjoy. Join clubs, participate in extracurricular activities, and try out different hobbies. This can help you identify potential career paths.
Develop Skills: Start building skills that are valuable in the job market. This could include learning a new language, developing computer skills, or gaining experience in areas like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Volunteer and Intern: Look for volunteer opportunities or internships in fields that interest you. This can provide you with valuable experience, help you build a network, and make your resume stand out.
Seek Guidance: Talk to teachers, school counselors, and professionals in fields you're interested in. They can offer advice, share their experiences, and help you make informed decisions about your future.
Set Goals: Set short-term and long-term goals for yourself. This can help you stay focused and motivated. Remember to celebrate your achievements along the way.
Stay Positive and Persistent: The journey to a good job can be challenging, but staying positive and persistent will help you overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
By taking these steps, you'll be well on your way to securing a good job in the future and being able to support your mom. Keep up the hard work and stay determined!

It's great you're thinking about your future like this. First step is really about continuing to work hard in school and do the best you can. Second would be to look for a job that you can start while also attending school, whether in the evenings or after school or weekends. This will help you gain skills on the job, and experience working with customers, managers, and coworkers. You'll learn how to handle real world challenges we all face in the workplace. The job you have in 10th grade may not be the job you have down the line but it's a great start to the working world and also good to have as you start working on your resume. But sometimes the job you have in high school can help support you through your education and if you have growth opportunities there and like what you do, you can climb the ladder. However, trying out new jobs can help you figure out what you like or don't like, and can get you closer to the job you find most interesting. Some examples for general jobs at this stage include retail, restaurants, entertainment (movie theater etc), grocery stores, hardware stores, nurseries, nursing homes. All of these opportunities can help you help your mom out with the bills while you gain experience and a better understanding of what you want to do and down the road you'll make your mom proud.

Hey Chelsi!
I love that you are looking out not only for yourself but your mom as well. Remember, first and foremost you must think about your education. Stay on task at school, get good grades, but also take electives that involve things you ENJOY. Art, music, photography, soccer, football, basketball, marching band, choir, whatever it is you enjoy, do it. You may get scholarships from these electives as well as scholarships for doing well in general. Those scholarships are really helpful when you are picking out colleges. This is my only advice to you as I had to learn the hard way I SHOULD have done things this way. I was stressed over my family and I could not focus at school. I wish you luck and a bright future ahead!
All the best,
Josie

Chelsi,
There is so much opportunity out there, I have no doubt you will be able to find great opportunities to help your mom with her bills. I think one of the keys to great future employment though is to find something that you enjoy doing. You can grow in any employment opportunity, but the trick is being at a place you want to stick around long enough to grow career-wise and income-wise.
