Rachel’s Answer

Hi Brandon!

I would suggest trying a few different options since everyone learns in different ways. Here are a few things that worked for me: re-reading the content, making note cards, creating my own tests based on the material and then taking those tests, finding a study group and getting a tutor if it was really a subject I wasn't understanding.

Rachel recommends the following next steps:

Re-read the content
Create note cards
Create practice tests
Find a study group
Reach out to your teacher for more resources you can use or for assistance in something you don't understand
Thank you comment icon hi Brandon, I have found that the most important of studying is finding out how what your learning style is. We all learn differently. Find out if you are a visual learner, auditory learner, or do you learn by doing it. I would do a online test on learning style and then incorporate that into your study habits. Maybe you need flash cards, maybe you need to say it out loud after you right down your notes. Once you understand how you learn, you can maximize it and partner up with others. Nick Ellert

Hi Brandon!

I would suggest you the following tips which helped me:

MUCH BEFOR EXAMINATION
1. Try to make notes when you are attending the lecture. At the time of self-study, revise them and modify them as per the need.
2. Try to teach your peers about what you have learned. This is not just helpful to them but also to you as you will be able to revise and retain it in a proper way. Remember! The more you discuss or help others in understanding the topic, the better it is for you.
3. Before you move to next chapter/lesson make sure to revise the previous one. It won't take much time for you just leaf through it.
4. Always study with a schedule which you should prepare in advance. One day prior is fine.

A WEEK BEFORE/DURING EXAMINATION
1. Prepare your schedule for a week. Which reflect, what topics you will be covering along with the time slots and BREAKS! Break is utmost crucial, as it allows your mind to relax. Remember! Don't burden yourself. The more you are relaxed the more you will be able to retain.
2. Study in group, if possible. If you find something hard to understand, leave the topic move ahead and let your peers be aware of that you need help with respect to a particular topic. TIME is important use it wisely, don't waste it by forcing yourself to understand something because your peers found it easy! Also, help others if you can.
3. Make sure you are eating healthy diet during that time as it also plays a vital role.
4. Most importantly, don't revise again and again on examination day. We often get the feeling that we don't remember this or that before exam. If you feel the same, try not to discuss about topics with your peers as, it will increase your stress. Just stay calm, if possible do breathing exercise (Count till 5 inhale, hold for 5 sec and exhale on the count of 5). IT HELPS!

Believe in yourself and you will be half way nearer to your dreams!

I hope it was helpful.
Good Luck!

Whitney’s Answer

Hi Brandon! I find that when I write things out by hand, it helps me remember them better. It's a simple trick when you think about it, but the old fashioned pen and paper usually helps me a lot more than staring at a screen!

Good luck.

Simeon’s Answer

It's honestly much better to study in small ten to fifteen minutes sessions multiple times per week as opposed to cram studying. It's way less stressful and the information sticks better. You know how TV advertisements are trying to repeat the same message to you in small chunks multiple times per week? It's the same thing. Our brains retain information way better when its repeated often in small chunks. When you have multiple hour study sessions, the odds are that you're going to be zoning off once the first thirty to forty minutes have passed.
