How can I use my life experiences to do better in the education aspect of life?

I am struggling with finding myself, life happens and I drop-in classes; grades drop, and it takes me some time to get back up. How can I switch or get up faster?

Ciera’s Answer

Hi everyone,
Firstly, I want to say that if anyone is struggling in this area please understand that it can happen. Taking on a new experience such as college can be a MAJOR adjustment. In order to do better , you must first give yourself grace. By giving yourself grace, you are allowing yourself room to reevaluate what you need to do. Next, you should consider adjusting your path with your goals. You may want to be in school but taking on a full time schedule may not be feasible. Going part time may work best in scenarios like this. Lastly, remember that it’s not about the race , it’s about YOUR journey. Don’t feel rushed or pressured to keep up with anyone else or what other people tell you to do. YOU are unique in YOUR path and YOU will succeed. :)

Besides what Ciera said, I would suggest forming a support group - friends, peers and sometime senior students and recent graduates can be great allies - they have been through the same coursework more recently and may be able to give you valuable advice.

Remember that you belong here - you are just as intelligent and smart as others. Use some time to reflect on the following, it may help you:

1. What do you want to achieve in the current semester? In the next 1-2 years? 5 years from now? You may not have all the answers, but start with small steps. Don't try to do everything at once or solve everything at once.
2. Look at your life priorities as well. What is most important to you?
3. Create a schedule to ensure that you are allocating time for the things that are most important to you and your education/career goals.
4. Do not compare yourself to others. Everyone's circumstances are different.
5. The fact that you get up every time tells me you are STRONG & RESILIENT. That will carry you far.
6. A good education will open new doors for you that you don't know exists, so don't give up on that.
7. Reward yourself when you achieve every goal, however small it may be - it's a great motivator towards achieving your next one.

YOU GOT THIS! Good luck to you!
