Gary’s Answer

Hi,
Good question...the textbook answer is Business Management or Business Administration. The truth is that you can study any business related area and if you are a leader and show strong management, leadership and people skills, you can be promoted to a leadership/management position and move up from there.
good luck!

Martin’s Answer

Hi Kevin,

If you are looking for a leadership role within business, the first thing people usually pick is manager of a certain department or an officer of a company. Usually all business majors have a strong basis on leadership but most people decide on business administration and management if you are looking to give out orders and receive an incentive.
However, degrees don't always ensure a clear career path. Most people work up their way to becoming said leadership roles like a leading officer or manager. It really depends on your interests. Do you like working in IT where you can consult companies on technology? What about working with money and going into finance/accounting? While it all depends on your interest, management offers more well-rounded skills on leading others towards success as well as for yourself.

Gulio’s Answer

Hi Kevin -

Throughout my professional career I have held numerous management and leadership positions as well as have been exposed to truly great managers and leaders (as well as poor ones) and have found that a common thread amongst great leaders vs. managers is that it is all about others and not about the person. True leaders motivate and excite their colleagues to the extent that they will rise up and perform far above and beyond the call -- it's not about me, it's about you attitude.

Not all managers are leaders and not all leaders are managers ... however, I believe that all great leaders are exceptional managers

My suggestion is to perhaps persue a major in Business Admin with a minor in another area that may allow you to explore other areas that may stimulate a passion for you.

Best of luck!
