Zh'Ryia,

It's great that you have an idea of what you would like to do for a career so young. It gives you plenty of time to prepare yourself educationally, but also allow you to ensure that is what you really want to do. I would highly recommend talking to those in that field to get indispensable feedback on the positives and drawbacks that you may not have considered.

As with any goal, the mindset to achieve anything has to be broken into phases./steps For you ,this may mean you set mini-goals through the year to ensure you are on pace to meet your final goal. Taking the right classes and doing well in them will further propel that drive to reach your goal. You should expect setbacks and not look at these as failures or be discouraged. These are growth opportunities where you have control on how to move forward and your outlook.

It can sometimes feel overwhelming when the goal is difficult or takes a long time to achieve. The best you can do is plan for the factors you can control and enjoy the experience. Best of luck!

Consider volunteering or working at a hospital, clinic, or nursing home. This experience will be valuable for you. Also, reach out to your primary care doctor or nurse to discuss your future plans. Finding a mentor can be helpful too—perhaps someone at your local college who is already on the path you want to follow.

Hi Zh'Rya!
That’s an incredible dream—to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)! CRNAs are highly respected and super skilled nurses in the medical field. Since you’re just starting high school, you're already way ahead by thinking about this now. Here's the kind of mindset that will help you get ready for your future career:

1. Growth Mindset
“I may not know it yet, but I can learn it.”

Don’t be afraid of hard classes like biology, chemistry, or anatomy—these will build your medical knowledge.

Mistakes are okay! Every challenge is a chance to grow.

Keep pushing even when things get tough—CRNAs are problem-solvers and critical thinkers.

2. Determined & Focused
“I know where I’m going, and I’m taking steps to get there.”

Set short-term goals (like getting an A in science this semester) that lead toward your big goal.

Keep a journal or planner to track your progress.

Be open to detours but stay committed CRNA is a long road, but so worth it.

3. Service-Oriented
“I want to help people, not just work a job.”

CRNAs play a life-saving role in surgeries. It takes compassion and care.

Volunteer in your community or help at health events—it builds heart and people skills.

4. Always Learning
“Every day is a chance to learn something that brings me closer to my dream.”

Watch medical videos, read about careers in medicine, and ask questions in school.

You can even shadow nurses or healthcare workers in your community when you're older.

5. Visionary but Flexible
“I have a dream, and I’m ready to adapt to reach it.”

Stay open to learning about different nursing paths—sometimes your journey may shift.

CRNAs need a lot of training: BSN → RN experience → CRNA school. Each step is a win on its own.

Your Next Steps in High School:
Take advanced science and math if you can.

Get involved in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) or science clubs.

Look for healthcare volunteer or internship programs—especially in junior/senior year.

Keep your grades strong, especially for college and nursing school scholarships.
