What are some ways to make money to pay for college?

I plan on working a summer job, but like most teenagers, I have a busy summer. What are some ways you can save up for college?

Michael’s Answer

The best ways to save for college during a busy summer is to pick up jobs at restaurants, local retail shops or family businesses. Look for flexible job schedules and jobs where there are tips or sales commission. In addition look at applying for companies that have tuitaion assistance such as banks, hospitals or phone carriers. You can do it!

Hi Kyla,

Another option to help offset costs in college is to try to become a Resident Assistant (RA) in the dorms after your freshmen year. Working as an RA helps to offset or totally cover costs related to housing and meal plans, and can be a big help with costs. It also provides work experience and great skills that you can put on your resume when you are looking for jobs after school.

Best wishes,
Emmy

The summer job is great, but I would say prioritize your time.

If money is a concern of yours now, it will be later too, and you will want to plan ahead.

Start to be financially minded when spending the money you do earn and start to save what you can during your summer.

That may mean you don't go and do certain things with friends or miss out on a movie night even as a example time to time.

But do not let your fun and young summer go to waste, enjoy things still in moderation be careful of how you spend now.

Then on top of savings, you can do the above answer and go as a RA to reduce costs, or search for various scholarships or programs.

You can even work for the university while being a student outside of a RA in maintenance departments etc earning extra money during school as well.

I would look for some jobs in retail that will let you work part-time (or full time if you really need the money) that also has tuition assistance. Another way that I won't go more in-depth in since people have already mentioned it is to become a Resident Assistant. While that is something you can do, another option that is available to you is Work Study in any other department such as tutoring. Depending on how much you need and how much is going to be covered via financial aid and work can have different outcomes in advice.
