What is majoring in nursing like? Is it as hard as social media makes it out? And is the post graduate feeling worth all the hard work?
For background info I'm about to be a freshman in college and majoring in nursing and am a little anxious because i've seen mixed experiences and wanna be as prepared as possible! #Spring25

Good afternoon, a special greeting from beautiful Colombia, a country of hardworking, enterprising, and kind people. I had the experience of teaching a course to hospital workers, especially nurses, and received many comments about daily life in their profession. I want to share them as a guide when beginning your studies or starting out in this self-sacrificing profession:
First and foremost, you must love and be drawn to serving others, unconditionally, and thus be prepared to face the many challenges of working in a hospital. You will learn this throughout your studies and in your various clinical practices, but your vocation comes first. Keep in mind that, in addition to your basic studies, you must constantly complement and update yourself with new technologies, new devices, and hospital IT systems. The challenges to face are many, as in any profession, but especially in this one. Work overload, long shifts, caring for different types of people, and adapting to new systems will always present challenges, but all will be overcome with constant practice and a love for the profession. With perseverance, enthusiasm, and professionalism, if this is what you want, you will achieve it. See you soon,

Hello, and congrats on your entry into nursing school. Its been a while since I did my undergraduate nursing program, but what I can say between the classroom lectures and the clinical portion your time can be filled up as perhaps compared to other classmates who are in other majors. That's not to say it's impossible to have a life and enjoy life but you just need to be committed to managing your time well and making sure that your studies are a priority. If you can manage your time I think you'll be just fine, the unknown can be a little scary but you've made it this far. Wishing you the very best as you pursue your studies.

Hello,
This is a great question. Remember that social media is only a snip of someone's life. Nursing school is hard. The reason why it is hard is because you are being taught how to care for patients. Your knowledge and actions can save or take a life. Also, you have to be self aware of your learning style and choose the right program for you. I know finishing school in 2 years or less and on an online platforms can be enticing, yet you should look at, where can you learn the most. Many students are choosing nursing programs for current self convenience and flexibility. However, everything you do and learn now, will be reflected in your future practice. Remember, nursing is a selfless profession. Nursing school is hard, but it is not impossible. It is doable. However, it is important that you learn to comprehend and not to pass a quiz, test, or course.
You asked if it was worth it...ABSOLUTELY! You care for people in their most vulnerable state. You have a chance to educate, advocate, and provide care to people in this state. You have to have a great affinity for the nursing profession. If you are doing this for the money, honestly the money is not enough. The gain is seeing a patient getting into a love one's care because they have been discharged. Good luck in your nursing program. You got this!!!
