Which is the best nursing specialty: labor and delivery, pediatrics, or neonatal care?
I’m going into nursing school this fall and was wondering which of these specialties was the best to work in! I would like to get an idea of which specialty to go into so I can look into the specifics of the area!

All nursing specialties are the best! Really it is up to you and your personal preferences and passions. I thought I wanted to become a pediatric nurse until I did my pediatric clinical rotation and then realized that it wasn't what I thought it would be for me. Keep an open mind as you go through your clinical rotations, because you may find a specialty you didn't even know existed. If you are passionate about an area, you could look into volunteer opportunities or nursing assistant roles to get a better feel for the specialty before you graduate. And in nursing you don't necessarily have to work in one specialty for your whole career, there are lots of options!

I think there are plenty of options as far as specializations. Ironically I thought I wanted to be a psych nurse before I started school, and when I did the class and clinical, I really didn't love it. Like Michelle said keep an open mind, you might have a moment where it sort of clicks and you're thinking wow I can see myself working in this area, or you might realize like I did when it came to psych nursing, I can't see myself doing this. And no disrespect to psych nurses my cousin is a psych nurse but I think some nurses just have a great skill set suited for that speciality and I think for nurses they just gravitate to a certain area.
