If I want to join the military as a nurse, would I be eligible to join as soon as I get my degree and pass my NCLEX #Spring25?
I am a college freshman and my dream is to be a nurse practitioner. Recently, I have thought about joining the military after college, but I am unsure if recruiters will allow me to join since I wouldn't have much work experience.

Hi Serenity,
You've combined two very different careers, which makes it hard to find the right mentors to help you. Many nurses haven't served in the military, and many military folks aren't familiar with nursing. I recommend splitting your question into two parts. First, ask military personnel if they would join the military before or after getting their bachelor's degree, and what's the best way to do it.
From what I've seen, military members often use funds set aside for education either during or after their service. I don't have military experience, but in my class, about 30% were military. Their education costs were covered, allowing them to attend more expensive private colleges. A few had to report to their base a few times during training.
Best of luck with your endeavors!

I would finish your college nursing program and then join the military. Usually, you can contract for a days/weeks/months, deferrment until you have passed the exam. Since you will go in as a commissioned officer, your college degree will allow for that to take place. But, not actually having the license will probably cause you a delay to work as a nurse. Talk to "nursingrecruiter" in that branch of service who will be able to tell you the exact steps you need to take.
