What steps should I take to get accepted into Dental School? Any good recommendations?

I am currently going to Hygiene School. However, my dream is to become a Pediatric Dentist. Due to lack monetary struggles, my first step was hygiene school. I plan to apply for Dental School but I don't know what steps to take, I heard it is very difficult for acceptance. Is that correct?

As a dental hygienist you are gaining first hand experience treating patients in the dental setting; that is a great start. You want to spend as much time as possible preparing for the DAT so that you have a competitive score. The DAT is one of the most important factors used to consider applicants for admission. Do you volunteer? Spend time volunteering your time at health fairs where you are providing care for the less fortunate. Also, really spend time thinking about your ‘why.’ Why do you really want to be a Pediatric Dentist? Develop a network of people that will support your journey. Speak to as many Pediatric Dentists as possible. Have people that will read over your application and support essays. Identify who will write your letters of recommendation.
