Great advice and ideas here! Try these steps to boost your skills:
1. Dive into agile and scrum processes to understand how they work.
2. Explore PMO tools like Microsoft Azure DevOps, Adobe Workfront, or ServiceNow. The more you learn, the better!
3. Consider getting a certification, like becoming a scrum master, to enhance your expertise.

To stand out today, focus on real skills, not just your degree. Learn tools like Jira, Trello, or MS Project, and pick up a basic certification like Scrum Master or CAPM if you can. Try to get internship or project experience — even small ones help. Build good communication skills because consulting and project management are all about working with people. Keep learning, stay flexible, and show that you can solve problems, not just follow tasks.

These are all great suggestions above. I'll keep it short and take a more general approach to success in the job market.
1. Use LinkedIn to build your network. Instead of cold calling, talk with an alumnus who works in the company you like.
2. Get your professors to write a recommendation post for you on LinkedIn, highlighting the keywords that support your quest for the given role.
3. Look for the ten best jobs out there, look at the description, and see what all the key words and skills they all call for. See if you can realign your resume or add some skills to plug these holes.
4. Last but not least, don't completely rely on AI to create a resume or LinkedIn profile. You can, and should, get some help to shorten it and keep it crisp, but put your words in it.

Even for experienced workers, finding a job in today's market can be hard without a connection. Many companies don't have entry-level jobs anymore. The important thing is to grow your network. You can do this by joining local technology meetup groups or by searching for internship opportunities. These networks will get you the referrals needed to secure a job in this market.

Even in an IT field important skills for future progression rest in professional skills. Meaning, you must demonstrate proficiency in the technologies you will be working in the present and ability to quickly learn new and emerging technologies coming up in the future, nevertheless do not forget that consulting and project management are people businesses. Hone your communication skills, how to deliver concise but powerful messaging through storytelling, be personable and show empathy an interest on your audience. You want others to want to work with you, be organized and deliver on your word!

Hello! In addition to the good advice given so far, I'd encourage you, when you have time, to pursue certifications online. It might be useful for aspiring Project Managers to look into PMP certification. Or for aspiring Salesforce.com admins to look into Salesforce certification. The drawback is that there usually are feed associated with getting certified. But even if you are just taking free courses online, you can say on your resume that you are pursuing these certifications. Best wishes as you look to start your career!

Be Curious and take the initiative to research PM and tech consulting. If you have anyone in your LI network that is already in either field, reach out and pick their brain on what skills it takes to be successful in those fields and then work on your skill gaps. Every online SaaS upskilling platform (including Pluralsight) has some free courses OR sign up and take the courses that you want-it shows initiative to your prospective employers!

Hi! The advice provided above has been excellent. Three ideas:
1) Gain certifications in project management via LinkedIn and Google. For development projects getting certified in Agile would be really helpful. Learning how to use MS Project for project/program tracking would be great but would require a license. This shows strong initiative in continuous learning and building your skillset.
2) Volunteer for a non-profit organization and lead a project to gain hands-on experience, ideally a project with multiple workstreams. Perhaps you can find a leader in the organization who can mentor you. Even if you use Excel as your tracking mechanism, this can be something you point to for hands-on experience.
3) Build your network -- this is key to finding a job. I suggest reaching out to members on LinkedIn who have project manager titles at companies or industries you are targeting, and ask for 15 minutes of their time to better understand their role and gain any suggestions. Even if it's "blink request," people are generally happy to assist early career professionals and be sure to ask for additional contacts to build your network.
Good luck in your journey!
