How do I start my desired career as a genetic engineer after receiving my biology degree #Spring25?

I'm very passionate about genetics and biology and I want to make sure I'm putting the knowledge I gain to good use straight out of college.

My Aunt and Mom actually worked in the industry for a bit and I think their paths were as follows. Get an internship with big pharmaceutical company (Apply to every single one you can is my advice) and then do really good in that role. After which they received job opportunities. They learned more there than they did at college since they have access to tons of research data and other opportunities. After that they pivoted to other biotech companies and chose their niche.
