What are some techniques that can be meshed with Mechanical Engineering and agriculture that can help with the production of sustainable agricultural food #Spring 25?

As a Mechanical Engineering major, I am interested in food sustainability to help offset our nation's need to eliminate food insecurity.

James has ably highlighted the opportunities mechanical engineering offers in modernizing and optimizing farm operations.
The agro processing sector provides the next level of value chains. Primary agricultural products are processed directly in food chains for human consumption: grain milling, beverages (beer, soft drinks, milk, tea, cocoa, coffee, tea, tomato sauce, curry powder, beef, spirits, edible oil & fat etc.). Other value chains include animal feeds, ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry etc.
Mechanical engineers fit in all these supply chains.
Roles are available in production, maintenance, utilities, design, projects, research and development etc.
In addition to good grounding in engineering principles and practical skills (analytical, problem solving, leadership, planning, communication, teamwork), mechanical engineers need other competencies. Critical among them are Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
TPM is the foundation upon which World Class Manufacturing has been built.
RCM is a methodology that drives modern maintenance practices.
The agro processing sector runs on modern technology including robotics, advanced electronics etc.
The sector provides very rewarding opportunities for mechanical engineers.
