As a lawyer, what kind of skills and characteristics are required to apply?
I am an 8th grader in middle school and I aspire to be a lawyer. I have been wanting to dedicate my education to law school etc. As much as I love that career, I know so little about the requirements and traits i need to have for that job. What characteristics do I need? What traits, and skills? How much years are required in law school? And as a lawyer, is it worth it? I’m willing to learn more!

In order to be a lawyer you have to graduate high school good grades, college was good grades, do well on the LSAT test which is law school admission test, law school can be anywhere from 3 years to six. I did it on three.
The skills and characteristics you'll need would be good logic, good public speaking, good research skills, and the ability to retain information. Salary is very greatly depending on what law school you go to how your grades are, and what firm hires you. You will work long hours in the beginning as you stay at the law for longer your hours will be reduced. If you can become a trial attorney you'll need very good speaking skills and the ability to read people that are on the jury and the judge. Trial attorneys tend to make the most money. Good luck

Nirvana: I have been a lawyer for over 40 years. You will be a great addition to the profession!
What you need to do most is concentrate on being a great 8th grader. The more knowledge you get growing up the better lawyer you'll be in the end.
You want to know what skills and traits you need. Well you already have the first one - curiosity! Never lose that. Being a lawyer is learning new stuff all the time. Second is empathy - caring about others. You seem to have a good amount of that. Finally, tenacity - gotta be willing to keep fighting even when it looks bad!
However, at this point in your life you should worry about being in middle school.Remember, have fun, learn all you can, play sports, get dirty! These are the traits that will make you a great lawyer!

Choosing to become a lawyer is a fantastic decision, Nirvana! To excel in this field, you'll need a blend of skills and personal traits. Key abilities include clear communication, sharp analytical thinking, and problem-solving to understand laws and craft arguments. Strong research skills and attention to detail are crucial for preparing cases, while negotiation and advocacy are vital for representing clients well. Personally, qualities like integrity, resilience, and good judgment are important, along with empathy and professionalism to earn trust. In summary, success as a lawyer comes from both expert legal knowledge and strong people skills. Best of luck!
