Bless you for wanting to be a nurse and care for others . You just exhibited the number one thing of importance in being a nurse - which is a kind nurturing heart ❤️ During your middle school and high school ( college prep) you will want to place a focus on the sciences - biology , microbiology , anatomy and physiology . You will also have to have a chemistry class and a college prep math class. Most nursing curriculums will also want you to take a humanities class . If I could attain one skill that I don't have but wish I did is learning the Spanish language . We have a large Hispanic language here in the United States. Many times, a knowledge of Spanish and even sign language would have been very beneficial . Good luck with all you do .

Charlyne’s Answer

Being a nurse involves many different tasks, so learning as much as you can is important. This knowledge helps you connect with people at any stage of their life. Relating to patients and finding common ground can comfort them during tough times. As an intensive care nurse, I see patients in some of their most frightening moments. Focus on your education, join extracurricular activities, and seize any chance to learn something new. Meanwhile, stay present, appreciate your current learning and experiences, and take things one step at a time. Stay true to yourself and your core values, and you will find the right path. Enjoy learning, Sofia!

Mary’s Answer

To become a registered nurse (RN), first complete an accredited nursing program, earning either an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Next, pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to demonstrate competency. Finally, apply to your state's board of nursing for a license to legally practice as an RN.

James’s Answer

I applaud you for being a person who cares about others and wants to help them. If that is one of your core values, nursing or other healthcare professions may be perfect for you. All healthcare careers require a sold education in biology, chemistry, and some physics, mathematics, and statistics. Indeed, these courses are difficult for some, and sometimes makes some who may have been excellent care providers give up. People skills are super important, so classes like psychology, sociology, creative writing, acting, debate team and such add value. Being well-rounded is important no matter what you want to become.
It may be difficult until you are older to be allowed to shadow healthcare workers, but inquire locally about opportunities to volunteer in hospitals or clinics. Be inquisitive - ask (without pestering) doctors, nurses, therapists, lab techs, radiology technologists, pharmacists... what they like and do not like about their jobs.
There may also be opportunities to work with not-for-profit organizations that help certain populations with their health management. If there are specific diseases that interest you, there is likely a branch of an organization that focuses on that illness in your area.
Health requires housing, food, cleanliness, dignity... so consider helping in any organization that helps people with these basic needs.
Good luck!
