Hi Rose,
I am not sure if you want to go into cosmetology or into cosmetic science - the difference between applying make-up and developing make-up.
If you want to do beauty treatments, hair, make-up, and nails for people, you need to go to cosmetology school. In Florida, getting a license as a cosmetologist requires 1200 hours in a cosmetology program and a test.
If you want to develop beauty products, i.e. become a cosmetic scientist, you need to go to college. You'll need at least a bachelors degree in a natural science, most commonly chemistry or biology or pharmaceutical science. You can further specialize in cosmetics in a masters program or by doing a diploma course. Aim to find internships with a cosmetics company during your studies.
I hope this helps! All the best to you!

Hi,
There are a few options to get started.
1. First, there might be free or low cost certificate programs that require a few weeks of learning commitment and maybe some financial commitment to get you started with learning more about Cosmetic Science. You can check with websites like "Coursera" for more information on certificate programs specifically for Cosmetic Science.
2. Secondly, it is important to know that certificates and degrees are not the same.
You will receive a higher level of learning if you earn a degree in Cosmetic Science. If you start an internet search ( like through Google), and type in your search criteria you will find a number of schools who currently offer degree programs with a focus in Cosmetic Science. Some degree programs are Bachelors( or undergraduate degrees) and others are graduate degree programs.
If you start at a 2yr school and later decide to transfer later to complete your education at a 4yr university offering your desired major, you may potentially save money by taking the basic courses like Chemistry, Biology and others at a lower cost university. It is time consuming but research scholarship options as well that may help fund some educational expenses to help you reach your educational goals.
Best of luck to you!
