Welche Möglichkeiten habe ich?
What options do I have?
I've attended many college fairs and will be graduating high school with an associate degree in information technology, as I'm taking the Ptech course in Minnesota. I don't yet know which college I want to attend, but it should be one that's relatively close to Minnesota and supports people with mental disabilities, offering many resources for people like me. I found an AHD college that supports me and has nice staff members who are knowledgeable about careers in information technology. That would be helpful.

Try checking if colleges in your preferred area offer the major you're interested in. If they do, go ahead and apply. You can also visit the campuses and ask about their support programs for students with disabilities, including mental disabilities. Seeing things in person and having direct conversations can be really helpful.
Remember, you'll have protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Since you're focusing on mental disabilities, it's important to learn about the resources available. Make a list of what you need to succeed so you can ask specific questions about their services. This will help you have more meaningful discussions and get the information you need.
Best of luck on your college journey, Jo!

It is good that you are about to graduate from high school and are looking for different colleges to attend. I am also a person of a disability having PDD growing up and understand the importance of schools that best support people with disabilities. In terms of options, there are many different quality schools in Minnesota that have good tech programs like University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), Saint Cloud State University, Minnesota State University, Winona State University and University of St. Thomas to name a few. Hope this was helpful and best of luck to you when it comes to your educational journey!

I'm glad that you are here for support but since you've already found a college with an Academic Health Department, it looks like you've found the college you're asking about. I would like to add that you can also always come here to Career Village for college and career advice and information.
It's great that there are certain colleges that are in partnership with a public health agency, having an Academic Health Department. Does the college you found have the Major you want ? Whatever you would be majoring in is something to consider in a college.
If you happen to come across an awesome college with the major you want and they are not in partnership with a public health agency, that's most times okay, too. All colleges have supportive services for people with a disability. When looking at colleges, find out if there is an on campus office for Students with Disabilities. Many colleges have it. As a college student anywhere, you are covered by the Americans With Disability Act and the The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Section 504, so you would be served on just about any American campus. You can ask for special accommodations reasonable to your life as a student. So you can start exploring other colleges if the college you found doesn't have a good program for your major.
It sounds as though you did an early college high school program since you've stated that you'd be graduating High School with an Associates Degree in Information Technology. You will have to also find out if whatever college you choose will accept the credits from whatever college you obtained your Associates Degree from.
The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities has a Disability Resource Center. Also try Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota as they have programs focused on learning and adaptive services. I think you'll find that most colleges accommodate students having these needs. You can always consult with your college Academic Counselor where you're obtaining your Associates Degree and ask for more colleges to explore. As I've mentioned, it's hard to pinpoint because although various colleges have different programs for this, all colleges are obligated to accommodate students that have a disability. You should really be looking for strong programs that have your Major.
Regardless of what college you decide on, there are always resources in the community as well. Some of these are PossAbilities of Southern Minnesota, People Inc. – Greater Rochester Region Services, Lifetime Assistance Inc., Bear Creek Services, Inc., and Resilience Center. You didn't mention exactly what you specifically need so you can contact these agencies to learn of their services.
I hope this helps and that you find a college that has a superb Major Program that you want ! Best wishes to you always !
