Frank’s Answer

As an investigator you are assigned or are involved in certain or several investigations. When you start your day, you should review your work and look to organize what your plans are for the day for each investigation. You should make sure you do your research before going out for any investigation. It is better to be prepared and to know more about who you will be speaking to and something about their background, if it is possible. You should have a general idea of what you need to accomplish for the day, but there are always new leads or witnesses you learn about and have to be flexible to deal with in your work day. At the end of the day, you should try to summarize your work for the day, so it is fresh in your mind for the following day.

Michael W.’s Answer

My mode of transportation to/from work is my personal vehicle.
Once at work I used an unmarked cruiser which was assigned to me during my work day.
In my particular situation, I was given special assignments as a member of an Insurance Fraud Task Force and Governor's Auto Theft Task Force, while in the City Police Dept. Detective Division. I was also on-call for sexual assault, and suspicious fire/explosive investigations. In addition, I would help out other Detectives or Patrol Officers, or take routine Detective calls when requested, especially if they were tied up on a big case or just short handed.
My work day was 8:30-4:30 M-F with weekends off (unless called-in while "on call".
Unfortunately, when you are a Detective or even a patrolman with specialized training in investigations, and are "on-call" , you can get a call at any time day or night. If you are single, it's not as bad as if you have a Significant -Other or even more.. kids!
Many a holiday I would "get the call" and have to put my personal holiday time on hold to go into work and investigate a fire, sudden death, robbery, ect.
I totally agree with "Sean" who also answered your question. It's best to keep as much of the job at work and NOT bring it home. Your personal/family life is very important, and should be cherished as much as possible. You can always get another job, but NOT another Family!

I hope this helped answer your question. I wish you the best with your class project!
Best Regards,
-Michael-
