You can see if your local retail pharmacy will take technicians and do it as a part-time job to see if you enjoy working in a pharmacy. Some hospitals will also have volunteering and shadowing opportunities.

I love the drive that this questions shows! You’re already on a great path to being successful in pharmacy school. One of my favorite pieces of advice is to get involved. Volunteer at health centers - oftentimes they need volunteers to help get snacks or drinks or just to hang out with patients. Look at your local centers, specifically outpatient centers (oncology clinics are a great example).

If you’re looking for employment opportunities that are in the field, try looking for patient care technicians or pharmacy runners that are entry level at a clinic or hospital. Those will help you get a head start on recognizing some medications and get a feel for how hospitals work.

As far as studying, focus on anatomy and physiology. That will give you a great head start for your first year of classes in pharmacy school.

Be sure to take some time to focus on your hobbies as well. That will help you avoid burn out during the intense study sessions that pharmacy courses require.

Other than that, enjoy the time you have outside of school and work to help you learn to focus on yourself. Pharmacy school can be very intense, so focusing on having a good state of mind from the beginning can be a great way to prepare.
