Is it hard studying sonography?

I'm a Senior in High School and I get mixed opinions about this. There's people stating that sonography is fun to learn and easy. In the other hand, there's others stating that it is very hard and having to study HARD. I'm already accepted to an sonography program but I want to see others point of views. What do you believe?

Thank you comment icon Hi! im a senior in hs too and i was just wondering what kind of program did you get into or sign up for? hazel

Hi Vanesa! You have asked an excellent question! Sonography is one of those modalities that carry a lot of responsibilities. It is very operator dependent, meaning the exams that you produce for the radiologists to interpret depends solely on you. If you don’t image an abnormality, the radiologist won’t be able to make the correct diagnosis. It is also challenging, (probably the most challenging of all radiology modalities), because as a sonographer, an thorough knowledge of both anatomy (cross sectional) and physiology is very important to do your job well. For example, if you see an abnormality, based on that finding, you will also need to know what else to look for so that the radiologists can be complete in his report. It will also be your job to give the dr a complete patient history which can be instrumental in a correct diagnosis. Because of these things, I would say that sonography is definitely not easily, but rewarding. Every patient is different and every day that you work in ultrasound will look different. Lots of variety in exams as well—OB, abdomen, vascular, small parts, etc. Hope this helps.
