Hi Mary. One of the best ways to find an internship is through your university's alumni network. Many alumni are willing to help students by offering advice, mentorship, or even internship opportunities. You can reach out to them through LinkedIn, attend alumni events, or participate in mentorship programs offered by your school. These connections can lead to internship opportunities that aren't always posted publicly. Alumni who are already working in the business or law fields can also give you valuable insights on what skills you need and what firms or companies are hiring.

Another great way to get noticed is by building your online presence. Having a strong LinkedIn profile is essential, but you can take it a step further by creating an online portfolio or personal website. For business majors, this might include showcasing business projects, case studies, or research you've done. For law students, starting a blog where you discuss current legal issues or analyze court cases can show your passion for the field. Having an online presence allows potential employers to see your skills and interests clearly and can make you stand out from other applicants.

Instead of just waiting for internships to be posted, you can consider reaching out directly to companies or law firms you're interested in. You can send an email or letter explaining why you admire their work and why you think you'd be a good fit for their team. Even if they don't have a formal internship program, showing initiative could lead to an opportunity.

I agree with Wong's advice and suggest you stand out by creating a memorable personal pitch.

My nephew got an internship at a sports radio station by thoroughly researching the company and contacting the Director of Operations on LinkedIn. The Director responded, gave him an interview, and things progressed from there. His proactive approach really worked.
