What qualities or habits make someone truly successful in a nursing program beyond just studying?
I recently transitioned from administrative/HR work into nursing and will be starting my LPN program at Hondros College of Nursing. Since my background isn’t clinical, I want to hear what the most difficult part of the first year was for you and what strategies helped you succeed. Any guidance on time management, studying, or clinical confidence would be really helpful.

Nursing school will take up almost all of your time. Plan for this and expect it. You will get through it just fine, it is a very short period of your life. If you can make sure to look at patients as people who need medical care at the moment it will help you be an empathetic caring nurse who does everything that should be done for them. They are not simply "patients", they are an important part of a family and a community that you are a part of for a brief time.

Just in general, being honest with yourself and how you plan to approach taking on tasks. Be realistic with timeframes. Also, do you have the heart and mentality to deal with patients, their needs, and emotions. Book smart is one thing for school, but once you get into the field you have to evaluate and evolve.
