When I went to school for my BSN, I didn't have kids. Later, as a single parent with two children, I returned to school for my MN to become a nurse practitioner. Balancing time with my kids and their activities while finding time to study was tough. I also had a long 2-3 hour drive to school, which meant waking the kids before 5 am to drop them at the sitter's. I made sure to prioritize them when they were awake and studied while they were at school or asleep. Finding flexible daycare was difficult, but I managed. It was a challenging period, but my kids saw me working hard toward my goal, and it turned out well for us. On hard days, I focused on immediate tasks instead of worrying about the future, which helped me stay calm. Reminding myself that school would only last two years kept me motivated.
