How to get a scholarship and get over the hurdles in the way of my future and career?

I've got 91% after my 2nd year and a few extra curriculars but i still wasn't able to get a scholarship(GKS to be specific) i applied for and dropped an year cuz that was the only option. Actually i want to study in UK or US but i really cant afford that i cant even afford it here in Pakistan. I'm really lost right now i really dont know what to do. My precious time is being wasted cuz I'm not the type of a person who is consistent without any pressure of college. I really am trying to use my time in the best way like currently im learning Korean working out everyday and teaching neighborhood children, but still im not that disciplined the way i was when i was in school constantly learning something and doing assignments . But honestly i hurts me when my time goes to nothing. I want to take SAT , Ielts and Topik but i cant afford the fee so im just preparing from free sources and youtube for them for the sake of self Satisfaction and having no regrets . I really dont know what to do to have the future I've always envisioned. Please tell me how to use my time in the best way possible. Btw i want to choose AI as my major if i get into a college so any tips ill be glad to take!

Thank you comment icon You’re not stuck, even if it feels that way. GKS is extremely competitive, so not getting it doesn’t mean you’re not capable. You’re already doing meaningful things, learning Korean, teaching kids, staying active and that’s real discipline outside school. If you want the US or UK, focus on building a strong personal story, apply to many smaller scholarships, and keep preparing for SAT/IELTS/TOPIK with free resources until you can afford the exams. Use your gap year with intention by going deep on a few things like Python, math, and AI basics through free courses. Build small projects, document your community work, and apply broadly. You’re not wasting time, you’re building skills quietly, and it will pay off. Fiolajesurera

Discover local or state scholarships and opportunities like Fulbright, Chevening, Knight-Hennessy, and merit-based university awards. Focus on building a well-rounded profile to show scholarship committees you deserve their support. Engage in AI hackathons, competitions, projects, and share your work on GitHub or through blogs to highlight your skills. If exams are costly, use free resources like Khan Academy for SAT, IELTS Liz or British Council for IELTS, Duolingo for Topik, and Coursera or edX for AI and programming courses to stay prepared for future chances. Scholarships often value commitment, leadership, and impact, so keep track of your projects, volunteer work, and learning experiences.

Plan your day like a professional: dedicate mornings to AI and math study, afternoons to test preparation, and evenings to community service. Spend two to three focused hours daily, and you'll see progress over time. Use free platforms like Kaggle for AI practice and GitHub to showcase your projects. Strengthen your profile with recommendations from teachers, mentors, or professionals who know your skills and work ethic. Keep them updated on your achievements for strong references.

For AI, focus on learning math, Python, and machine learning through free courses on Coursera, edX, and YouTube. Build a portfolio of projects and connect with online communities and mentors. This can lead to scholarships, projects, and guidance, enhancing your skills and applications. With consistent effort, structured learning, and supportive recommendations, you can overcome financial challenges and move closer to your goals.
