What skills are the most valuable in order to become a Crime Scene Investigator?
I am a 17 year old Senior In High School and with graduation right around the corner It is now the time to focus on my career. I know I want to go into the field of Law Enforcement however I do not want to have to go through the police academy. I've taken college courses and classes that focus on Forensics and Criminal Procedures which has led me to want to become a CSI but what do I need to obtain in order to achieve that goal.

Some cities, such as San Antonio, have civilian CSI's. I would look at getting a job with one of those police departments, perhaps as a police dispatcher or evidence technician. I'd also encourage you to read the job descriptions and required training/education for the CSI position, and work to meet it. You will likely need at least an Associate's degree.
Also consider joining the police explorers, or attending the Citizens Police Academy (usually for adults, but perhaps. . . ). Find opportunities to ride out with police officers.
Having officers /employees within the department to use as references on your application is a big plus!
In short, don't expect to jump straight to the position that you want, but work your way into it. It's possible!!
