Hi genesis,

There are different aspects to "making clothes". There are fashion designers, tailors, seamstresses, and then there are "fashion-adjacent" fields like marketing or photography in the fashion industry.

Depending on your actual interest, i.e. the creative aspect of fashion design vs the craft aspect of sewing clothes, or other professions in the fashion industry, there are different education paths.

If you want to be a fashion designer, you should go to fashion school. If you are interested to learn sewing, you could do an apprenticeship. If you are interested in business aspects of the fashion industry, you could get a degree in business management. If photography or film appeals to you, you could study for an art/photography degree.

And, of course, depending on your needs and interests, you can do degree programs that offer a combination of the above. I left a couple of links to fashion schools for you below.

I hope this helps! All the best to you!

In my experience in the fashion world, although not a designer myself, the best background to launch a career in clothing design is going to a top fashion design school. A couple of the best are Parsons and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). These can be quite expensive, so if they're not an option, you could research schools near you that have a good reputation. Look at the graduation rate. You can usually get an idea of the fields the graduates went into, etc. One very important things to keep in mind, I know was difficult for me at your age, is you can't start at your top. Learn from professionals, don't set your expectations too high early on. Most schools have a career board where you can become an intern to start. (Just one idea) You will make it to the top with hard work and diligence. Keep an open mind and you'll find your dream!!
