Hi, Megan. Becoming a licensed veterinary technician is an exciting journey, that starts with attending an accredited school that offers a vet tech program. These programs are often 2-year degrees, but some are 4-year colleges. In your first year, you'll study a lot of basic and applied biology and animal science. Congratulations on getting accepted to Wesleyan! Although it doesn't have a vet tech program, it offers a pre-vet program that prepares students for vet school. To become a veterinarian, you would complete a 4-year undergraduate degree, like the one at Wesleyan, and then attend a 4-year veterinary program to earn a DVM degree. Most vet techs complete a 2- or 4-year vet tech program, earning an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in veterinary technology. Wesleyan will provide a great education, but it won't qualify you to be a vet tech or take the national exam. If your goal is to become a vet tech, consider talking to your guidance counselor about applying to vet tech programs as an alternative. You've got this, and there are many paths to reach your dreams!
