What is the best way to make myself stand out on my resume when applying for the highest earning entry-level jobs in the field of Digital Media and Communications?

Or in other words what are job recruiters looking for when hiring people fresh out of college? I am graduating with a bachelors in communications and I want to work part time before applying to graduate school. My goal career-wise is to work in an artistic and cultural institution.

Hey Shanel,

Read the job description like a map. Match your school or work wins to exactly what they need. Most importantly: Use numbers. Instead of "helped with events," try "managed 5 events for 200+ people." Numbers prove your impact!

Wishing all the best in your journey!

Hi! I would make sure that you make sure to explain what you have achieved to-date and anything that stood out. I would also mention how you currently use AI. It's important to understand that marketing and communications is going through a massive transformation. So organizations are looking for people who understand today's technology and are open to coming up with new ideas. I love your focus area--best of luck!

Hi Shanel,

First, congrats on your education and career goals. When I graduated many employers wanted me to have experience. Now, that may not be what you want to hear but it's the truth. They wanted to see where I had applied my skillset. Not my projects while a student but real world clients. You may want to consider freelancing since you only plan to work part-time. You can pick your schedule and you will be building a resume.

With kindness,
Andrew

Here's a helpful tip: Look at the important words in the job description and use them in your resume. Recruiters often match resumes by these words. So, it's a good idea to tailor your resume for each job you apply to. This can increase your chances of getting an interview.

Alyssa’s Answer

When recruiters check out resumes from new graduates, they usually look for people who show they can start things on their own, learn new stuff, and try different activities. They like to see if you've done things like leading clubs, working on projects, or volunteering. Showing you're involved in more than just your college classes is really important. If you've had internships, definitely include details about what you did and the skills you gained. We know new grads might not have a lot of business experience, so we're mostly looking for someone with a variety of experiences who is ready to learn and get involved. Best of luck!
