Can a black girl like me even fit in the Anime character designer community? Like will I ever be accepted? Am I wasting my time? #Spring26
I want to get a AAS in animation and a bachelor's in animation so I could become an anime character designer. I want to create characters so animators could bring them to like and apart of good anime like Naruto and One piece. I want to travel to Japan in the future but start of virtually.

Hi Jayla,
First off, I love your name! You have the power to become anything you want. There are no limits for us as Black girls. You could even be a trailblazer for others. Start by checking out social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram and look for Black creators who design anime characters. Just type "Black anime character designer" in the search bar and explore from there. Don't hesitate to reach out and ask questions. Also, look for communities on Google or AI platforms. Keep track of all your work, never give up, and ignore any negativity. Remember, all it takes is one "yes" to achieve your dreams. I wish you all the best!

You can ABSOLUTELY do what you want to do...even if you happen to be the first!!
You may find resistance in any space where you are not considered to be the norm, but I would expect that you will find more acceptance for your unique perspective. Additionally, you may find a community of Black anime artist and enthusiasts if you look around.
Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or some other AI platform that you use for suggestions on finding anime communities (possibly geared towards younger people and/or ethnic minorities).
Search social media platform for communities that fit your interest. Reddit comes to min, but, again, you may want to steer yourself towards communities of younger people.
Do NOT be discouraged by unaccepting people!
Immediately leave any conversations that become toxic or offensive without engaging the offender!
Remember why you are interested...FUN!! Stay focused on your goal and FUN!
