I'm going to start my BSN program soon but one question that came to mind was, What do you do when you become overwhelmed with patients ?

I know that in nursing, depending on the position, you can be put in high-stress situations, and I would like to know in advance tips on how to remain level-headed.

Tess’s Answer

Our team on each floor is usually well-balanced with aides, nurses, PT, and OT, so it often doesn’t feel too overwhelming. It's really helpful to connect with your care team and rely on them if things start to get tough. They've likely been in your shoes and can share useful advice.

If you need a break, it’s perfectly fine to take a moment for yourself. A short walk, a sip of water, or a quick snack can help you feel refreshed and ready to go again.

Remember to care for yourself outside of work and school, too. Focus on activities that make you happy and help you recharge. Burnout can sneak up quickly in this field, so it’s important to look after your own well-being.
