Have you thought about becoming a music therapist? You can combine both passions into one goal.

As with any career choice, I highly recommend trying to job shadow/intern somewhere as soon as possible so you can get an idea of what it is like to actually to the job you are interested in.

Jonathan recommends the following next steps:

  • Job shadow a music therapist.

Hey Shaunice! First of all, that is amazing that you have many things that you are passionate about! That is a gift, and both of the areas that you mention bring joy and healing to other people. As for a career - If you love Physical Therapy, then I encourage you to look into that as a career and do some research and ask folks who are in that area about what it takes to learn and become certified.

I am a professional musician as well as a software administrator, and I will say this about music .... It is always there for us! Even if it is not a career, follow your passion in that direction as well! Do you have other folks to play and sing with? Any local youth based theater groups? Those might be avenues to meet other musicians and collaborators.

Follow your joy!

best, Shelley
