For this hot major, I think the most important is to network with your school and attend seminars in the hospital and local recruiting event. There are not many "big companies" looking for this type of talents. Mostly are hospital and clinics. Find your local medical association/non-profit organization to start ask for an internship or an informational interview. They usually knows which clinics are hiring.

Aaron’s Answer

Probably the best source of networking and relationship building I can think of would be utilizing the resources provided by a nursing speciality organization. For example, the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (https://www.awhonn.org/) has a section on its website dedicated to state/local chapters. These chapters typically have meetings or other events that you could attend.

Otherwise, volunteering or obtaining a job as a CNA/PCT at a hospital within the L&D unit is another way to make these important connections that will help build your future career.

Aaron recommends the following next steps:

Check your specialty nursing organization to see if there is a state or local chapter.
Contact your state or local chapter to see if there are any meetings or other events that you could attend.

Great advise from the first responder to this question. I would add that getting experience at a natural birthing center is also a great way to round out the experience of nursing school. Maybe become a doula, which is a person who assists in natural child birth. This is fantastic experience that gets you really in touch w natural delivery. Best to you!
